Yamaguchi Karin is a Japanese actress born in Chuo-ku, Tokyo. Her parents' home is "Chiyoda Bookstore", a long-established foreign bookstore in Nihonbashi Kabutocho. After graduating from Ochanomizu University Junior and Senior High School and Toho Gakuen College Junior College, she became an actor nicknamed "Karinto". She debuted in 1970 with Morikawa Tokihisa's "Youth Flag". In 1979, she left the Haiyuza Theater Company and became a freelancer. While she is active in TV dramas and movies, she also has a long career as a stage actress. She is a former member of the Nippon Foundation Advisory Council.
